Freestyle Soccer in North America
By: Daryl | June 17th, 2009You’ve seen Bill Wingrove and Jeremy Lynch and all those other UK freestylers doing their tricks, but turns out North America has its own band of ball-jugglers too.
Canadian Eli Freeze seems to be the frontman for “Team Swirl”, and E:60 (which I’m assuming is like an ESPN version of 60 Minutes?) put together the above short piece about the group, and the growth of freestyle soccer.
Steve “summertime is soccertime” Nash gets involved and shows off a couple of tricks. The Offside Rules calls it “Your weekly reminder that Steve Nash would rather be Bill Shankly than Bill Russell.” Shaq doesn’t look quite as keen (he’s more comfortable playing in goal).
Can freestyle soccer be used as a sort of gateway drug to get people interested in the beautiful game? That seems to the suggestion. More on these North American freestylers at freestylesoccer.ca

Really? Apologies to MattyDub and any other UK based readers who are getting that message. I didn’t realize YouTube could do that.

E60 is a combo of 60 minutes and outside the lines. In depth stories on people and things not usually covered.
