Galatasaray Condemns Turkish Football to Eternity of Positive Stereotyping

By: Daryl | February 26th, 2009

Is it racist/prejudiced when you ascribe certain attributes to entire cultures? Even if said attribute is a positive? I think it probably is.

But if Turkish people don’t want to be labeled as genetically pre-disposed to last-minute comebacks then maybe Turkish football teams should stop doing things like this:

Yep, that’s Galatasaray pulling off an epic turnaround against Bordeaux in the UEFA Cup this evening, more than living up to the Turkish national team’s comeback-tastic performance at Euro 2008. (Ask a Croatian.)

It was 3-3 and Gala were heading out on away goals (first leg had finished 0-0) when Sabri Sarioglu scored that injury time winner. And is it just me, or is this yet more evidence that UEFA Cup is actually twice as entertaining as the Champions League?

Wow, Harry Kewell’s still got it! Great match by the looks of it.

And Daryl, I’d probably agree that the UEFA Cup is twice as entertaining as the CL. The entertainment factor of football goes up as the quality goes down. Simple as.

Turks don’t watch football for entertainment. We watch it for the rush of emotions that come with it.

On an added note, type up Harry Kewell, Kocaelispor, and Galatasaray and see what you get.

Wasn’t so much of a “come-back” as Gala were winning 3-1 at some point. Just the last goal qualifies.

    Brilliant Kewell effort though.
