Galatasaray Fans Take Tossing to the Next Level
By: Bob | May 21st, 2007
You always read about how heated the derby between Galatasary and Fenerbache in Turkey is and now you can see why the fans get into it so much. Other than the occasional riot, what other opportunity do you have in life to pelt human beings with water bottles? How fun. The amazing thing to me is that the players continued to play through it like they are used to it or something. The tossing wasn’t limited to just bottles. Galatasaray’s supporters did Toronto FC’s fans one better by ripping up 4,000 seats in the stands. What a game to choose to attend for your first football match.

How was that stadium constructed? Those seats came off without much effort. I reckon they want be playing any home matches for a long time.

the turkish football association disciplinary commitee gave a 5 match ban for the fans, in other words Galatasaray will play 5 home games without people in the stands. the moment on it’s own is a moment without the story, the story first is that the rivals fenerbahce in the first match at the Fenerbahce stadium their supporters threw everything they could grab wounded the Galatasaray coach and the referee but no penalty was given at all. Secondly The main supporters group known as ultrAslan had a quarell with Galatasaray’s president which was burried after the 5 match ban came from the Football association and the president threatened to motion for a re-election of the Football association and all of its sub parties if the football association wouldn’t treat all teams equally. For US peeps. football in europe is way way way way way beyond let’s say golden state warrior and utah jazz fans throwing stuff after a game being lossed.
