Gamblers Find a Fortune in Scottish Second Division
By: Bob | October 2nd, 2006
All of this time while we were busy trying to figure out a way to make our fortune and retire to a lifetime of leisure, the road to riches has been under our nose in the form of the Scottish Second Division.
Gamblers around the world are tipping a pint or three in the direction of Scotland today following a massive payoff from a match involving Second Division sides Forfar and Peterhead this past weekend. An estimated £1.5m was won by gamblers following Peterhead’s 8-0 thrashing of a Forfar side that tried in vain to get the match postponed because injuries had left it with only eight match-fit players.
Wagers started pouring in after the Scottish FA denied Forfar’s request on Friday to postpone the match. More than £3m was bet on the match, a number that rivals what is typically gambled on English Premier League games.
The overmatched Forfar side put up a fight, but it didn’t help when Darren Gribben and Alan Rattray were both sent off with red cards. Unfortunately for those of us looking to duplicate this get-rich scheme, Forfar now has a couple of weeks to heal before facing Stranraer on October 14.
