Goalkeeper Scores With his Head
By: Laurie | September 30th, 2008How often do we see goalkeepers score? Not too often.
How often do we see goalkeepers score off a header? Not too often times a hundred.
But here we see Silvio Proto (who plays for the exquisitely named K.F.C. Germinal Beerschot) getting a last-gasp equalizer.
From the always-on-top-of-things 101 Great Goals:
The setting was at the Olympisch Stadion, Antwerp, during Belgium’s late Sunday night meeting between Germinal Beerschot and AA Gent. The hosts initially lead through Dosunmu at the break, but Gent turned the game around thanks to a brace from Maric in the 41st and 81st minutes.
Starring defeat in the face, Germinal won a corner in injury time and, with nothing left to lose, keeper Proto was sent into the mix to cause havoc.
And the rest is history.
But more importantly, who would like to join me in my move to rename every team in the universe “[City Name] Germinal Beerschot”?

That was an INCREDIBLE header. Seriously, that was such good technique. Jared Borgetti would be proud.
Also, wicked team name.

Some quick remarks:
* you can’t add a city name in front of ‘Germinal Beerschot’, as Beerschot is already a location. It’s a suburb of Antwerp, and ‘Germinal’ is something random like ‘Rapid’, ‘Brann’ or ‘Steaua’.
* KFC stand for ‘Koninklijke Football Club’, the Belgian version of ‘Royal Football Club’.
