Great Nike Italy Print Ads Featuring World Cup Winners
By: Bob | September 26th, 2006
While we’re still kind of nonplussed by the Nike commercial featuring everyone’s favorite headbutt target, we do dig the series of print ads that Nike has put out to celebrate some of its sponsored players from Italy’s World Cup winning team. The ads are done in the style of classic Italian advertising posters of the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s. They also happen to be a pretty clever way for Nike to capitalize on the Puma-sponsored Azzurri’s success.
Now if only they would come out with some ads featuring France….

Gorgeous, love the art deco style. I have a collection of art deco travel and propaganda posters from the 20s-40s. These would fit in very nicely.
Materazzi’s poster says “World-class solidity, proven to be head-butt-proof” - he certainly wasn’t headbutt proof when zizou smacked him down good, did he?
“Now if only they would come out with some ads featuring France….”
Why, just so you can sneer at the French some more, the way you do almost every day on this site? Anyway, I don’t think Nike has much connection to the French squad - ask Adidas.

Agreed, I never get tired at sneering and cutting up the French.
Unfortunately who would wan’t a poster of players who lost? Maybe the loved ones of the players but surely it wouln’t cover the cost to produce them.

I love the posters, and hope they come on sale in my country.
I think all the posters are well one with particular honours going to Cannavarro, Gattuso and Materazzi.
I disagree Lazaro and think Materazzi did prove himself to be headbutt proof. He completed the game and scored what can only be described as a perfect PK.
