Here’s your shot at Soccer Podcast fame
By: Bob | October 9th, 2007
Hey Bloggers and Visitors,
As some of you might have heard, The Offside is going to have a podcast. Basically it will be a 20-minute rundown of the week’s events and news, with extra bits and pieces from all around the Offside blogger community. We have an unusually large and diverse community here, and if we use it right, I believe we could put together one of the best soccer podcasts on the web. We have some folks already signed on to help, but if anyone else is interested, especially anyone with any experience in radio or another related field, please let me know at scotland [at] theoffside.com. The podcast will debut on Tuesday, October 30th, but before we do, we need a name. The Beautiful Game is taken, and The Offside Podcast is a little on the unoriginal side. Please post your ideas in the comments, and again, anyone who wants to help out, drop me a line. Cheers.
-Ian (Scotland and UEFA Cup Offside)

Wow, I’d love to help, if I knew what a podcast was exactly (I wish I were joking but I’m not).

Yeah, I’m not fond of the word “podcast”, but what are you gonna do? A podcast is just an audio recording that is put online along with a file called an RSS, like the ones that update blogs, that tells people that subscribe to the podcast when its been updated. It’s like a radio show, but instead of coming on at a specific time, we upload it onto the web at some time every week (say, 9am on Tuesdays, starting October 30th) and if you’re a subscriber, the next time after that when you are online, whatever program you use to look for podcasts (often iTunes) will download it automatically to your computer and you can listen, put it on your mp3 player, etc. That’s it in a nutshell. We’d love to have you involved, Inara. Cheers.

I kind of dig “The Near Post”. I think that’s my favorite so far. Although JT wins for most esoteric random idea. “Talisman” is maybe the coolest word in the language.
