Imagine the Wikipedia Entry if Ireland had Lost

san-marino.jpgInternational football took center stage this week with a number of friendlies helping to remind us all that national teams still exist. The one match that actually counted for something was a Euro 2008 qualifier between Ireland and mighty San Marino, a country that has only one match in its history and that is currently ranked 195th in the world. On paper one would have thought that Ireland would get their American Samoa on against the minnows. They did not and their fans are less than happy about it.

It took a goal in the 4th minute of stoppage time for the Irish to pull out a 2-1 win against a team that lost to Germany 13-0 in Euro 2008 qualifying last September and whose most famous player, Andy Silva, plays for a Serie C club in Italy.

An Ireland fan pretty much summed up the gloom by making some creative edits to the Football Association of Ireland’s Wikipedia entry:

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI)Are a bunch of Fucking useless cunts that should be taken out and shot. Everything that they touch turns to ash. wheither it’s the Eircom League, all the money that they blew after the 1990 & 1994 world Cups, the Building of Eircom Park, The Roy keane incident, The Sacking Of Brian Kerr after he did the best that he could right down to the Appiontment of a man without no managerial experience and who talks through his arse…Mr Steve Staunton! the organising body for the sport of association football (soccer) in the Republic of Ireland. It should not be confused with the Irish Football Association (IFA), which is the organising body for the sport in Northern Ireland.

Sadly, I could find no gloating on the San Mario – aka the Big Club in Europe – football entry, but what can you expect from people living in the Most Serene Republic?

    Haha, those darn Wikivandals.
  • Brian,

I'm not quite sure if it's as good as this one.

That's the best Wiki article I've ever read.

Yeah, that is slightly on the pathetic side. Especially when you see the goal San Marino scored.
