In Honor of St. Patrick’s Day

By: Laurie | March 17th, 2008

I know that I already posted this video clip. And I know that the song, In Dulce Jubilo, is technically not Irish. (It was written by Bach.)

But it feels like St. Patrick’s Day, okay? And the dance, and the hat, could only be carried off by an Irishman like Robbie Keane.

Plus, since I posted this two weeks ago, I’ve watched it at least ten times. It never fails to cheer me up. (And on top of that, even though I love the oh-so-French William Gallas, the sight of him sulking on the field to this tune never fails to make me laugh. Sorry, William!)

In case anybody cares about the origins of this version of the tune, at the bottom we have the original Mike Oldfield performance, which I watched to be sure that was a tin whistle I was hearing. (It is.)

I figure, tin whistle + Robbie Keane = Irish = St. Patrick’s Day. So there you go. We’re totally topical.

(This is the kind of hard-hitting investigative journalism you get from us here at The Offside. You’re welcome.)

Enjoy and wear your green! (And I’m now off to iTunes to download this song. I’m not kidding.)
