Injury of the Week: Taking a Nighttime Whiz Can be Dangerous
By: Bob | March 5th, 2007
By its very nature football is a dangerous sport. At any time you could get your head kicked in, run into an advertising board and bust your knee, or get up to pee in the middle of the night while staying at a hotel room and end up with a broken toe.
English Championship League club Preston will be without the services of its winger Simon Whaley for the rest of the season thanks to a freak accident that happened while the team was training in Spain. Manager Paul Simpson describes the accident:
Explaining how winger Whaley came by his injury, Simpson told the club’s website: “He got up during the middle of the night to go to the toilet in his hotel room and stubbed his toe on a coffee table with a marble top on it.
“The marble has fallen off the table and landed on his big toe which has left him with a fracture.”
I suppose teams will now have to hold training sessions to help their players to develop the skill to hold it in all night so that they don’t expose themselves to the dangers of nighttime urination. It could have been worse for Whaley. There could have been a pot of scalding water (gasp) on that table.
