Inter give Milan a massive wake up call

By: Rob | August 29th, 2009

Inter recorded one of their best ever derby day wins against rivals Milan today, as they waltzed to a 4-0 victory. Most of the pre-match build up had been about how Milan could get something, after their good opening day of the season, and Inter’s disappointing opening day draw to Bari. But there was only one team in the game.

Motta opened the scoring with a sweet move involving new signings galore, before Rino Gattuso gave away a penalty which Milito duly converted. There was then a moment of strangeness, as Gattuso, who was carrying a knock, walked off, asking to be substituted, but before Seedorf was ready to replace him, Gattuso managed to get himself sent off. Inter made it 3-0 before half time and the match was well over.

Dejan Stanković scored a brilliant long range effort (above) in the second half to make it 4-0, and Inter played most of the second half in second gear.

After the sale of Ricky Kaká to Real Madrid over the summer, it was assumed that the oppurtunity would be made to rebuild a seriously aged Milan side, but that hasn’t been the case at all. They’ve bought in Huntalaar, who is a good signing, but one player does not a whole team make. And Milan have looked like a retirement home for a few years now, and you would have thought with that Kaká money, they would have used it to start putting together a new generation – alas club debts and choices by the ownership seem to have stopped that from happening.

There isn’t much room left to maneuver in the transfer window, but judging on this performance, this Milan team isn’t good enough to be where they would expect to be, not helped by the refusal of the big names to turn up. Ronaldinho whined his way through the first half before disappearing in the second, Pirlo looked completely absent.

So much for Inter’s slow start to the season huh?

I don’t remember I ever enjoyed sucha dominant match from Inter before. We had such great games befor like in 4-3 win over Milan years ago or against Juve last year but this one was something else. They made me proud for real. The appearance of Sneider played a huge fact IMO. He was too great for a player that just joined the team the day before.

    VIVA INTER!!

At the start of the Summer when they agreed a deal fr Cissohko then, wanted him for lower as he had bad teeth problems. Porto didn’t want to lower the price so sold him to Lyon for the price Milan offered them first. They wanted Dzeko aswell but, Vfl Wolfsburg didn’t want him to leave. They wanted to buy Luis Fabiano if the Dzeko deal fell through which, it did. But, they didn’t agree with the valuation Sevilla gave him. So, that deal fell through. They were also, linked with Rossi and some hacker hacked on their website and put up that they signed him. He would be a better signing then Hunterlaar aswell.

Hunterlaar was a last resort signing to try and calm down the fans. In other words a panic buy.

They were linked with Hernanes of Sao Paulo aswell. That would be the perfect, younger replacement for Kaka.

I think the Kaka money has been absorbed into the club to help clear some of its debt.

Selling Gourcuff was a terrible mistake. He would help Milan greatly.

Basically, they should of tried harder to buy Cissohko, Dzeko, Hernanes and kept Gourcuff. The team would be :

    Abbiati
    Cissohko Thiago Silva Nesta Zambrotta
    Pirlo
    Ronaldinhio Hernanes Gourcuff
    Pato Dzeko

Subs : Gattuso, Ambrosini, Seedorf, Borrelio, Abate, Inzaghi, Onyweu, Storai, Roma.

That team could actually challenge for Serie A. There current team is way too old.

Cissokho isn’t a right back. Gourcuff doesn’t play on the left.

I’m pretty sure there’s a 3-part interview with Paul Rand up on youtube where he talks about all of this. See if you can find it, it’s definitely worth the watch.
