International Friendlies: Goals Galore
By: chris | March 27th, 2008So what do you do when you’re playing for your country but the matches are technically meaningless? Pad your highlight reel, that’s what. A mixture of old standbys, up and comers, superstars in the now and relative nobodies provided some spectacular goals from all corners of the globe on Wednesday – here are some which managed to stick out.
Winner of the day was easy: Giorgos Karagounis of Greece who, as you can see above, scored a gorgeous free kick just before half time….the matched the same feat afterward. A nice two-fer.
Arunas Klimavicius (Lithuania)
Alright, this one’s more about the service. I’m guessing this was a regulation field?
David Villa (Spain)
Serhiy Nazarenko (Ukraine)
Yossi Benayoun (Israel)
(You get extra points for falling down while scoring from a free kick.)
Then, of course, there’s The Pato Goal, which Daryl already posted on The Offside’s older, slightly more studious brother, the World Cup Blog, our home – and yours too – for all things Euro 2008 and beyond. Also, there was an absolutely fabulous goal scored in a World Cup 2010 qualifier between Kuwait and Iran, along with all sorts of shenanigans – also on the WCB.
