You're probably right -- I don't follow the domestic situation. All I know is that when I watched Egypt's first game in the African Cup of Nations, the players were connected and in sync in a way that none of the other teams were. I could tell immediately that they had played together a LOT. If I were Egyptian, I'd want to keep that going.

I agree with you laurie, i also like to see El-Hadary playing in Europe, he deserves the good contract he got at switzerland and i hope he will do well there.
The reason why Al-Ahly management are opposing the move is simply because they dont have a decent replacement for him and not for the sake of the national team

Thanks for the update, Mannas. This case fascinates me. I think one of the reasons Egypt was so amazing in African Cup of Nations was that so many of the players play together domestically. I can't blame anyone in Egypt for not wanting to break that up. But at the same time, how do you deny a player his dream to play in Europe?

I think allowing him to play in Switzerland is the right thing to do, but I understand how hard it is.

Laurie, i think the whole situation is confusing you like it is confusing all us egyptians. the last update is that EL-hadary really wants to play for Sion but he was put under pressure by Al-Ahly management and the media and that is why he said all that in the TV. So yesterday during a party held to honour the egyptian national team players who just won the AFC for a sixth time, the egyptian president (i dont know why he did this) instructed Al-Ahly management to grant El-Hadary his wish to play in Switzerland as a kind of gratitude to his services. So i hopefully this will end the drama, but i guess it didnt really test the webster rule as Al-Ahly management will not fight the decision.
