Isles of Scilly: The Smallest Football League in the World

By: Bob | November 20th, 2006

scilly-football.jpgSometimes it feels like the Scottish Premier League is made up of two teams, Celtic and Rangers. While one of those two teams seemingly always wins the league title, there is another league in this world that is literally made up of two teams. For more than 40 years, the Isles of Scilly, an archipelago of islands off the southwestern most tip of England, has featured a football league with just two teams - the Garrison Gunners and the Woolpack Wanderers. The teams play 13 league games as well as two cup competitions against one another at Garrison Field, the ground they share. The Guardian has a interesting story about the current state of the World’s Smallest Football League.
