Italian Footballers Appeal for Kidnapped Journalist’s Release

By: Bob | March 12th, 2007

francesco_totti.jpgMembers of Italy’s World Cup champion football team have been enlisted to help in the efforts to persuade members of the Taliban in Afghanistan to release a kidnapped Italian journalist who they are threatening to kill. Francesco Totti, Gianluigi Toni, Fabio Cannavaro and Luca Toni among others have all recorded appeals asking for the release of Daniele Mastrogiacomo, a correspondent for La Repubblica newspaper. Totti’s message is in English. Hopefully their appeals and the appeals of others from around the world won’t fall on deaf ears.

If the journalist has got young family — including a baby — in Rome, I bet that’s what Totti was doing on the sideline with that stroller before the game yesterday. Great guess by faithful commenter RomaPete over on the Italy site.
