Italian Researcher Says Women Should Blame Losing Teams for Boudoir Issues
By: Laurie | April 15th, 2008
In the not-too-distant past, I have been at games in Europe where I, as a female, was outnumber about 25-1. Maybe this explains why?
From the “Because the Majority of Women Really DO Need More Excuses to Hate Football” files:
“The passion for football can result in sleepless nights for Italian women,” said Simonelli. … “When his team loses, especially during important or decisive games, the night of the game risks bringing about a bad and sad mood,” she said adding that these are major hindrances to intimacy.
Simonelli recommended that in such cases the women, instead of reacting with irritation, should try and be more understanding towards their partners. She said the women should should “understand and cuddle their partner, in the same way one would do so if there is a crisis at work or a period that is particularly stressful in the office,” adding that they then simply have to hope that his team wins the following week.
Or, alternatively, they could become fans themselves and share the misery.
But here’s the truly important question: What does this mean for, say, Manchester United fans?
I believe it means that this would be an excellent time to find out where the Derby County fans’ girlfriends hang out.
Just sayin’.

Presumably it works the other way around as well.
Actually what must be weird is if you have, say fans of two rival teams dating. When do these people bump uglies?

Only after both teams draw, but it’s basically going through the motions.
I wonder if Italia had a mini-baby boom March 9th, 2007.

Rubbish! As for Hockey, I’ve gotten sympathy sex 6/10 times when the RedWings were eliminated in the playoffs. 0/3 times for Stanley Cup wins.

Against my will, I am imagining Shane’s calendar/scoresheet with postgame notations. Because how else would you keep track this accurately?

Rob-Can’t imagine real rivals being able to stand each other anyways. I couldn’t imagine dating a Rangers supporter this year, as well as the fact that Rangers fans aren’t well known for their looks.
“Have you seen a handsome Hun? Nooo! Nooo!

Matt – Ok maybe not a rival. But you know, maybe you could learn to love, say, a Hibs fan

Ok Laurie, It could be more like 3/10 & 0/3. maybe i added a few.
I hate sympathy. I’d much rather have someone who either didn’t care and said “oh well” or someone who felt the pain. I was watching a Man City game last year and they were losing, it was a loss that almost saw them relegated. This girl they were showing throughout the game was balling at the end. I was in love. That Man City almost went down, not with the girl.

Shane, just checking. You mean “bawling,” right? That’s just a typo? Or are the broadcast standards in England different?
