Italian Team Gets Scored On While Celebrating

By: Daryl | January 27th, 2009

Attenzione, attenzione. Incredibile.

The above video is from the Sicilian League of Excellence, which is apparently one tier below Italian Serie D.

Here’s what happens: Mazara (yellow and black stripes) score what looks like a legitimate (and impressive) goal against Villabate (orange) but the ref disallows it. Controversial enough, but now multiply that controversy by 1,000.

Because the ref then lets Villabate restart the game while the Mazara players are still celebrating, which allows Villabate to head up the other end of the field and score. Cue mayhem.

Visit 101GG for the full explanation and background to this bit of madness, as they’ve clearly put a fair bit of work into figuring out exactly who’s who and what’s going on.

There was an offensive player between the shooter and the goalie that was in an offsides position, which is a violation of the rule even though he never touched the ball.

Those who think the official is an idiot, how many of you are soccer officials? Do you know why it was disallowed? The goal was disallowed because a player was offsides. Where were the assistant referees during all of this?

agreed that th ref completely dropped the ball on this one but come on people. a player should NEVER attack a referee like that.

Ref's in italy are losing the plot with every day. its sad.
  • never before would i had actually condoned a player decking the ref, that was dirty no matter what side you support.

Even if it was offside the ref shouldn't just let them play on, or restart play like that.

This same thing happened to Real Madrid not so long ago. It was very similar, altough, it was offside.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Reminds me of that video you posted early last year where Robben scored for Madrid...and while he and his teammates were celebrating the disallowed goal, Getafe scores with ease on the other side. With a hilarious zoom-in on Robben's shocked face.

Clearly, this is becoming more and more of a problem.

Both were classy finishes. The ref is a fool for allowing play to go on while half the opposing team was off the pitch celebrating with the two fans on the other side of the park. Unless, of course, he was looking for his youtube 15 minutes of fame, in which case it was a master stroke. Well played, sir.

    Refereeing has become completely ridiculous.
  • That ref needs to buy a home security system, and a bullet proof vest.
