It’s a Good thing he wasn’t Chewing Gum when he Swore

cswearing.jpgWhen you think about the culture of football players you undoubtedly think about their proper manners and way with words. They impress us with their efforts for 90 minutes on the pitch and enthrall us with their witty banter and eloquence off the pitch. They are a highbrow group of gentleman scholars.

That is why it is shocking – no, horrifying – to read that a member of this cultured society has fallen from grace. Former Charlton Athletic striker Kim Grant was sacked by his club in Singapore for the most outrageous offense possible: swearing.

The 34-year-old former Addicks trainee said: “I admitted it was an error and I apologised for it.

“It is part of my culture and I did not say it to anyone’s face. I looked down and exclaimed angrily. I did not think it would hurt anyone.”

What a rube! To think that as a professional football player you can get a way with muttering an expletive in a dressing room when only your teammates and club officials are around is so very naïve.

Think of the children, Mr. Grant. Think of the fucking children.
