It’s Microsoft for Seattle Sounders FC

New Sounders Kit?

I’ve mentioned before that I live in the Seattle area. Our hobbies here are drinking lattes and hitting up our friends who work at Microsoft for free software. (Seriously, I have not paid for Office for at least my last three computers. Don’t tell anybody.)

I love this town.

And so the new sponsor for Seattle Sounders FC, the MLS expansion team for 2009, should come as no surprise to anyone. Especially since Paul Allen is one of the co-owners.

Yes, our new sponsor is…this will be a shock. You’ll never guess!

Microsoft

I know. I was amazed too.

Our official jersey unveiling will be today, and my guess is that even the beta version jersey will come out with logo. A teaser photo of the jersey itself, above, may or may not have been leaked in advance. All I know is that when GoalSeattle.com posted a picture, they were asked to remove it. But fortunately some sneaky bloggers were able to save it for themselves before that happened.

Hmm. Bloggers asked to remove photos? Maybe this Microsoft thing won’t be so great after all. Unless we just relax and let it happen.

Remember, Seattle fans: Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

I’m in agreement about the software thing. I haven’t paid for office…ever. But what would be really cool is if they had the jersey’s on sale at the Brazil-Canada friendly. I’d drop the money for a first edition.

Now, everytime I see the new kit or a player wearing the new kit, I will be filled with rage. Words cannot describe how much I hate Microsoft. In my mind, the rivalry has already begun. It’s on bitches!

That’s decided – it’s a nerdoff between San Jose and Seattle. What will they call the made-up rivalry? The Silicon Cup?

…and it can just be a plastic cup filed with sand.

A nerd-off disguised as a soccer rivalry. I bet people will for realsies get into that. Now it’s all about San Jose landing a sponsor who supports open source. So Cisco is out, Google is in, Yahoo is broke and about to be bought by *cough* Microsoft, Perhaps Sun? But I’m still holding out for Google.

What are your thoughts on the match in Cary tonight, sounders fans?

Going with Adidas too. Could that be considered a Portland and Nike snub?

Adidas is required, I believe, as all MLS shirts are Adidas.

Also, our other hobby is complaining about stuff, so the new shirt/sponsor will likely give us a lot to do…

Forest green = awesome. Diarrhea lime green = not so much.

But who knows, maybe it’ll look okay on the marching band, smoke machine, thundersticks, and the tarp covering 50,000+ empty seats.

Oh, and Xbox is the kit sponsor, not Microsoft.

You’re right that the name on the shirt will be Xbox. But the money’s coming from Microsoft.

Oh, and while I’m making minor corrections… to Johnny:

Actually, adidas’ North American headquarters are in Portland, so no, not really.

X-Box is ten times better than Microsoft across the front of the jersey. Like PS3 instead of Sony. I’ll take that any day.
