Ivan Klasnic Is Back With A Bang

By: chris | December 17th, 2007

In only his 3rd Bundesliga game, one which was a 9 minute cameo as a sub, since returning after 2 kidney transplant in 10 months, Ivan Klasnic stole the spotlight in Werder Bremen’s 5-2 win over fellow top of the table rivals Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. Klasnic, playing his first game in Bremen since December 17th of 2006, scored two goals and assisted on another, his first goals since returning from his long layoff.

As you can see, the first goal was an emotional lift for Klasnic, who fell to his knees in celebration, saying afterwards, “I needed five seconds just to come to terms with that first goal”. Understandably. And pure class from the Werder Bremen fans who began cheering Ivan’s name after the second goal and took him off the field to a rousing standing ovation in the 85th. This heartfelt comeback story just keeps getting better by the week.
