Jean-Claude Darcheville Prefers to Carry Cash
By: Bob | June 28th, 2007
When you get on an airplane these days there is a good chance that you are going to get hit up for money. If you want headphones to listen to the Will Farrell movie they are showing (it’s always one of his movies when I fly) you have to pay $5. If you want to eat crappy food, you have to pay a few bucks. If you want to drink yourself into oblivion so that you can pass out and not hear the screaming baby behind you, you have to pay.
Indeed, it comes in handy to have cash when you fly. That is why it is difficult to fault Rangers striker Jean-Claude Darcheville. Newspaper reports say that the Frenchman was arrested by Brazilian customs officials for carrying a couple of bags that contained 46,200 euros. That could pay for a lot of in-flight Bloody Marys.
Darcheville, who recently signed for Rangers from French side Bordeaux, told AFP Thursday there was no truth in the report.
“Nothing happened. People can believe what they want to, but my family know it’s not true,” he said.
“Whatever the newspaper reports is its problem.”
Somehow I don’t think the newspaper is too worried about things. Darchville on the other hand might have reason for concern.
O Liberal cited officials as saying that Darcheville had claimed he was not aware of the laws on carrying money. However officials played down the Frenchman’s excuse, owing to the “number of notice boards all over the airport in Belem warning travellers of the rules on declaring sums of money. The signs are in French, English, Portuguese and Spanish.”
Maybe he was too distracted thinking about those Will Farrell movies to see the signs. I know those things always mess with my mind.

If he was an NBA player he could just use the excuse that he was going to a strip club for the night.
