Jeon Kyeong-joon Might Want to Hire a New Interpreter

By: Bob | February 26th, 2007

korean-dictionary-pv.jpgThe football world is full of stories about clubs and agents trying to take advantage of players. Things are apparently no different in Singapore where the South Korean player Jeon Kyeong-joon has filed a complaint with FIFA claiming he was duped into quitting his contract with the club Home United.

Jeon’s excuse for signing his own walking papers? He didn’t understand a word of what he was signing.

‘Jeon does not understand English. He was not aware that it was a termination letter,’ the player’s agent Jang Ki-hyun told Singapore’s Straits Times newspaper.

‘We will be making an appeal to FIFA. He thought he was signing an agreement for new salary terms.’

Home United claim that Jeon knew what he was getting into and that he had brought an interpreter along who presumably knew the difference between a salary renegotiation and a contract termination.

To make matters worse, Jeon was evicted from his Singapore apartment which was part of his contract deal with the club. Home United should change its name to Home Divided. At least Jeon can find a temporary home where all players screwed over in Singapore rest their weary heads.
