Jogi Won’t Give Jens His Tribute, So Rene Adler Does.

By: chris | November 19th, 2008

What a teammate. Or former teammate. Since Jogi Low wouldn’t give Jens Lehmann his international swan song – deeming the fixture too important for team experience purposes, which is quite reasonable – Rene Adler decided to take matters into his own hands by leaping six inches off the ground and whiffing miserably at a cross through the box, allowing Matthew Upson to tap it in. An obvious tribute to Jens, as Rene did what Lehmann will be best remembered for: shambolic goalkeeping.

Germany lost the game 2-1 after England’s other CB, John Terry, scored in the 81st after diving into Heiko Westermann’s back. This being their first loss in Berlin since 1973. Tough day for Germany.

Lehmann would have probably floored Defoe and gotten a red card. Kahn would have definitely have floored Defoe, won the ball, and yelled at the referee for not giving Defoe a foul. Adler was a bit naive, but then again so was Carson. They both learned tonight.

Young goalkeepers’ development? What?! He didn’t have to start, just a little run out, have him involved him in some way, would be better than nothing. I expected a little more class. He must have rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

Eh, the loss is not a big deal. Just a friendly, and you can see from his six subs that Loew was obviously more interested in feeling out his options.

Besides, Germany beat ‘em in their capital last year — only fitting they should return the favor.
