Judge: It is Safe for Italian Schoolchildren to Play Soccer
By: Bob | January 31st, 2007
The future of soccer in Italy is safe now that the country’s highest court has ruled that the sport can be still be played in school. A now adult who broke his arm by tripping over a ball while playing soccer in middle school in the mid-1990s brought a lawsuit that called soccer “a violent sport for which schools should require parental consent and doctor’s certificates proving people are fit enough to play.” In rejecting this argument the judge in the case said soccer “does not have particularly dangerous characteristics.” Try telling that to the heads of Marco Materrazi’s opponents. The judge was clearly swayed by watching the Italian national team in training.

It is a good think that is settled. It is not like kids in Italy have been playing calcio in schools for a century.

I knew without even clicking on it that you would use the Diving School video here. (Quite appropriate!)
What, no. Me? A bitter France fan?

Yeah, and in related news, Italy is thinking of banning mathematics, due to a pupil filing a lawsuit because of “irreparable psychological damages due to a failing grade”.
