Júlio César Kicks At Thin Air

By: Daryl | June 24th, 2007

FIFA get a lot of things wrong and upset a lot of people. But every once in a while they get something right. Take the back-pass rule for example. Introduced in 1992 to prevent timewasting, it prevents keepers from handling intentional back-passes from teammates. It’s made football ever so slightly faster and ever so slightly more exciting, with no negative side effects.

Unless you’re Botafogo keeper Júlio César that is. His attempt to deal with this back-pass from Alex is less than assured, though he can take some solace from that fact his team still beat Nautico 3-1.

Is it a good thing? I used to love holding the ball for ten minutes before distibution, and picking the ball up with my hands ;)

No, I think this is a very good statement as the back pas rule has streamlined the game and made it more exciting.

And the above goal…all I can say is ouch!
