Just When You Thought There Were No New Goal Celebrations…

By: Daryl | November 20th, 2007

…you find this one on the internet. Not the goalscorer (who goes with your basic shirt over head celebration) but the goalkeeper who favours something entirely different. The video is from brilliantly named Congolese club TP Mazembe Englebert’s 2-1 African Confederations Cup win away to Cameroon’s Astres Douala last month.

Two interesting things about this: 1) The goalscorer is 21-year-old hot shot Tresor Mputu, who has apparently caught Arsene Wenger’s eye, and could be heading to Arsenal or elsewhere in Europe in the very near future. 2) The goalkeeper’s “dog with worms” celebration. Fantastic. My powers of deduction (aka the TP Mazembe squad list on Wikipedia) lead me to believe that the name of the keeper bouncing along the floor in such entertaining fashion is Muteba Kidiaba.

Hahahah! Awesome, I hope that one catches on. I can see Buffon, Kahn, even Van der Sar doing it. ...maybe not.
