Juventus want to be treated like everyone else

By: Bob | October 29th, 2007

The tough decision of the day: which of the blown calls is more impressive? The one above or the one below? They both happened during Napoli’s 3-1 victory against Juventus on Saturday and they are the reason why the match referee Mauro Bergonzi could be banned for as much as a month and could be sent to the hinterlands of Serie B after that by Italian referees chief Pierluigi Collina.

In words that must put an ironic smile on the faces of his club’s rivals, Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri called for the unthinkable after the match. He wants his special club to be one of the gang: “We have already paid for the past, two championships and a relegation. We want to be treated like everyone else.”

Marcelo Zalayeta has been slapped with a two-game ban for this effort:

In unrelated referees getting in trouble news, we learn that swearing at a coach, even one who manages Leeds, is a no-no.

There’s are terrible calls and far more terrible dives . . . BUT . . . as a neutral observer (apologies to the Juve faithful) it is kind of funny to see this happen to a team that had who knows how many matches fixed for them only a couple of years ago.

Somehow it could be bad karma. It happens, unfortunately.

In the first video, the diver made a very athletic and convincing dive. From the first viewpoint in the video, it looked like a legitimate penalty. However, the closer viewpoint and MORE IMPORTANTLY the view of the ref, that was clearly a dive. Italian football, making Americans hate soccer more….if they actually saw it.
