Kaka Juggles Two Balls [or: Viral Soccer Ads Jump the Shark]

By: Daryl | November 28th, 2008

Remember when viral ads were new and exciting? That seems a long time ago, right? This latest effort has Kaka juggling two balls at once. Except one of the balls is clearly CGI, so he’s not really juggling it. 101GG (where I spotted this) described the results as “breathtaking”, but I’d go the other way.

I’m done with soccer virals and commercials where low-rent George Lucas trickery is used to make it appear the players are doing something incredible. If Kaka can’t juggle two balls at once, he shouldn’t be pretending to do so in an ad. Because it’s more impressive when the skills you see on screen are real. Just like in this legendary John Smith’s commercial:

See, Peter Kay can’t even juggle one ball, never mind two, but he still managed to make an entertaining commercial. No CGI there.

Remember when football ads were actually good? Chris does, and he’ll be reminiscing about them in his next post.

One of the balls is CGI? I think that after he kicks the first one really high and receives the second one, both balls on the screen are computer-generated Daryl.

But on another subject, admit it. You’re still heart-broken about that Ronaldinho-crossbar thing.

OK, make that at least one of the balls is clearly CGI. But I am a little heartbroken over this whole trend. I want to believe.

What a pile of lame, surely it comes up against advertising standards? It’s batantly false information, maybe because it’s on the internet it’s like a license to print an unlimited amount of notes of solid bull shit.

They annoy me silly too, this clip of non-sence got me narked for ages.
