Karma Turns Around and Bites Willy Sagnol in His Cocky Parts

By: Laurie | February 16th, 2008

Remember the other day, when I told you about how Bayern Munich player Willy Sagnol didn’t have a whole lot of respect for Scottish side Aberdeen, the team Munich was playing in the UEFA Cup on Thursday?

Of course you do. Who could forget that wonderful tabloid headline “Cocky Willy Disses Dons”?

I mentioned that it’s rarely a good idea to say things like, ““We are clear favourites for this match and we’re ready to confirm everyone’s predictions. This isn’t Celtic or Rangers we’re playing and we have more experience and technical ability.” Saying things like this before a game is dangerous. Even when it’s supposedly true.

Well it seems that karma herself agrees with me. Aberdeen by all accounts played a fantastic game and got a 2-2 draw. This after Willy said that anything other than a win would be a catastrophe.

And Willy himself?

Out with an injury, as were several of his teammates.

Karma bites, Willy. Remember that next time.

Fantastic result for Aberdeen, and a good step in taking Pittodrie back to the old European fortress it used to be under Sir Alex. Grab a goal in Munich, and shut them up for good, you Dons.
