Kasey Keller Joins Fulham’s American Brigade

Fulham might not be first in the Premier League table but they continue to make a bid to be first in the hearts of American soccer fans. The Cottagers have added US goalkeeper Kasey Keller to their Yank-laden roster. Keller joins fellow US internationals Brian McBride, Clint Dempsey and Carlos Bocanegra at Craven Cottage. Fulham USA indeed.

Said the man who has stood between the posts for FC Portland (seriously, Keller had a nasty mullet back in those days) Millwall, Leicester City, Rayo Vallecano, Tottenham and Borussia Moenchengladbach:

‘It’s fantastic to be back in the Premier League after a couple of years’ absence – and when the opportunity to join Fulham came up it was an exciting proposition that didn’t take too much consideration,’ he said.

‘I am really enthusiastic about this new challenge.’

At 37, Keller is in the twilight of his career but he is still a very capable keeper. This is a nice pickup for Fulham and it gives Keller one last shot at playing in the Premier League before he likely returns to the States and does a victory lap for a likely Pacific Northwest expansion team in MLS. If Keller starts, he’ll join Americans Tim Howard, Brad Friedel and Marcus Hahnemann as starting keepers in the Premier League. Four out of 20. Maybe the US should sell a keeper to England’s national team.

Keller… Please, someone must have begged someone to get him into a team. He needs to retire and not come to the MLS, all he’s going to do is take away someone spot who really deserves it. On top of that Tim Howard and Marcus Hahnemann should be the only keepers that US has on their roster.

Keller will probably be the 3rd GK for the US in the next World Cup.

If Fulham gets relegated instead of going to the Championship they could add a few more American players and join the MLS.

“all he’s going to do is take away someone spot who really deserves it.”

Your right it is sad that another crap English goalkeeper won’t have the chance to give away goals in the EPL. It does make the games so much more unpredictable with one of the local lads in goal bobbling the ball about.
