Kasey Keller Joins Fulham’s American Brigade
By: Bob | August 23rd, 2007
Fulham might not be first in the Premier League table but they continue to make a bid to be first in the hearts of American soccer fans. The Cottagers have added US goalkeeper Kasey Keller to their Yank-laden roster. Keller joins fellow US internationals Brian McBride, Clint Dempsey and Carlos Bocanegra at Craven Cottage. Fulham USA indeed.
Said the man who has stood between the posts for FC Portland (seriously, Keller had a nasty mullet back in those days) Millwall, Leicester City, Rayo Vallecano, Tottenham and Borussia Moenchengladbach:
‘It’s fantastic to be back in the Premier League after a couple of years’ absence – and when the opportunity to join Fulham came up it was an exciting proposition that didn’t take too much consideration,’ he said.
‘I am really enthusiastic about this new challenge.’
At 37, Keller is in the twilight of his career but he is still a very capable keeper. This is a nice pickup for Fulham and it gives Keller one last shot at playing in the Premier League before he likely returns to the States and does a victory lap for a likely Pacific Northwest expansion team in MLS. If Keller starts, he’ll join Americans Tim Howard, Brad Friedel and Marcus Hahnemann as starting keepers in the Premier League. Four out of 20. Maybe the US should sell a keeper to England’s national team.
