LA Galaxy Fosters International Goodwill by Losing
By: Laurie | November 27th, 2007
In case you haven’t been paying attention (and if you haven’t…well, what’s wrong with you?), David Beckham’s LA Galaxy have been globetrotting MLS ambassadors lately, spreading MLS cheer and happiness across multiple countries.
How have they done this? Well, so far, by getting a nil-nil draw against USL side Vancouver Whitecaps. Then by barely beating the USL’s Minnesota Thunder on penalties. And now by losing to Australia’s Sydney FC, 3-5. Next up? New Zealand.
I’m quite certain these results have nothing to do with the Galaxy, y’know, sucking. Or anything. It’s all part of a political strategy aimed at improving the US’s image in the world. Nothing like whomping David Beckham to improve international relations, eh? Well done, David.
And even better, Beckham scored off one of his trademark free kicks. Beckham scores, the Galaxy loses. And Australia is loving the US today.
George W? You can send your thank you card care of Galaxy GM Alexi Lalas.
