Ladies: Support Hertha Belin and Get Some Cooking Tips

By: Bob | February 14th, 2007

boateng_4.jpgLast summer’s World Cup showed that you don’t have to have a penis to enjoy football. Record numbers of female fans attended matches in Germany and watched on televisions around the world. Hoping to capitalize on the wave of female fandom and to boost their stagnant attendance, German Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin has launched a new Web site that is geared towards the ladies.

The site, Hertha Freundin, provides the in-depth coverage that female fans apparently are clamoring for. This includes a plethora of pictures showing the players pumped up and partially clothed, beauty tips and, of course, cooking tips because, you know, your man gets hungry after watching his team play.

For those interested in learning about female fans of another sort, I watched a screening of the Iranian movie Offside last night. While I was disappointed that it had nothing to do with this site, I did enjoy it for the most part. It tells the story of female Iranian football fans who are barred from watching their team play a World Cup qualifier against Bahrain in Tehran. It isn’t so much a football movie, but rather one that uses football to examine social, political and gender issues in Iran.

Word travels fast I see. And just for the record: I feel insulted (explaining the offside rule on the example of buying shoes? It’s just wrong). I wait for the first Bundesliga diet…
@ uneditedmara: just click on the picture in the top right-hand corner (kevin prince boateng) and you will be led to a gallery!
