Hide the Kids, It’s Landmine Soccer

By: Bob | December 28th, 2006

I’m all in favor of the United Nations. After all, they were my team at the World Cup. I’m also in favor of landmine awareness. I’ve worked in countries where innocent people are needlessly killed by the buggers every day. Still, I must express my displeasure with Kofi and the gang for making this advert geared towards a U.S. audience. Doesn’t soccer get a bad enough name in the country without parents having to worry about their kids being blown up on the pitch while playing in suburbia? Once they see this ad and their children playing the new sniper football video game, you can bet that parents everywhere will be signing their offspring up for something much, much safer like little league baseball or cliff diving.

Well Bense, that's one thing to have a pizza compared to a life, but I think it is ridiculous to say that you have to support the UN or else your daughter will die when she goes to her soccer game.
  • I hate these kinda "guilty conscience" adverts. I'm not giving one dime because of a bad conscience but because abolishing landmines is allright. I hate these kinda comparisons: "You just went to little Caesars, a kid could have lived from a vaccine by that price you've paid for the pizza!"...

I think that commercial will actually make my kids want to play soccer instead of video games. Pretty over the top disturbing though.
