Legal News: Dropped Player Ploughs Pitch, Granny Arrested for Stealing Ball
By: Bob | February 23rd, 2007
It is a dangerous world out there and unless law enforcement agents do something about it things are only going to get dangerouser. In Serbia, a football player who was dropped from his local amateur side didn’t take to kindly to his club’s decision. Upon hearing the news, midfielder Slavomir Milnovic went home, got his family’s plough, and destroyed the club’s pitch so that no one else could play. If only David Beckham had thought of such a thing when he wasn’t playing for Real Madrid! Milnovic was arrested and has been charged with damaging public property.
The news from Heanor, Derbyshire in England is equally disturbing. Angela Hickling, a 56-year-old grandmother who Wayne Rooney would probably want to sleep with, was arrested on charges of theft after being accused of keeping a football that was kicked over her fence and into her property.
Mrs Hickling said: “They just took me in and said I had been arrested on suspicion of theft of a football.
“I had to go and have fingerprints taken and DNA samples taken with a swab in my mouth.
“It just seemed totally bizarre for something like that. It was taking up two police officers on a Friday night while they could be out solving real crimes.”
The case was later dropped after police found no evidence in her home. She must have sold it on that notorious grandmother ball black market where many of my own childhood footballs ended up after going wayward into neighbors’ yards.
Just a public service reminder. If you come across a player destroying your local pitch or a granny stealing footballs kicked into her own yard, make sure you contact your local authorities immediately.
Stay safe out there, my friends.
