Liverpool and AC Milan to Meet in Champions League Final Again

By: Bob | May 2nd, 2007

liverpool-ac-milan.jpgIt won’t be an all-English affair but the Champions League final in Athens on May 23 should have a familiar enough feel to it. Liverpool and AC Milan will meet once again. The two played an epic game in May 2005 in Istanbul with Liverpool falling behind by three goals in the first half only to storm back and win the game in penalties. That was probably one of the top five games I have ever seen.

Will we see another classic game this year? It could be that way. Liverpool advanced after a tough pair of games against Premiership foe Chelsea. AC Milan steamrolled Manchester United in the second leg of their semifinals tilt. This will be Milan’s 11th European Cup final. They have won it six times. Liverpool will be playing in their 7th final and will be gunning for their sixth title. Neither team has much to play for in their domestic leagues so they should be well rested by the time the final rolls around.

I have been picking Liverpool all along but after what I saw today from Milan I think this is their year to lift the trophy. I’m going with a 2-1 win in the final.

Your thoughts and predictions for the Champions League Final?

And a little video from their last encounter.

I think Liverpool is more athletic but Milan is perhaps more skillfull and experienced. The key to winning will be good defense and good team work. I sure hope that Liverpool doesnt shoot themselves in the foot like arsenal did last year when their poor team mentality got the best of them. It really upsets me when slow unathetic teams like Milan or Barcelona beat far superior athletes like Arsenal with amazing athletes like Henry. The fact is that the fast team can defeat itself with its own speed and thats the way football is its not about being fast or athletic like track and field or amazing basketball players. Football as it is constructed has a better fit for thinkers and strategists more than pure athletes. Thats why African teams dont fair well and slower Italian and Argentinians do. Its a chess game on grass. GO LIVERPOOL.
  • Who knows what will happen? It is a final after all. I didn't expect the outcome of the last final between these two teams to be anything special, but boy what a surprise. I'm not terribly worked up either way this time either. It's not the most exciting final match up possible, in my opinion.

on a completely different thought... anyone notice the new nike spikes some of the players are wearing?

rooney had a white/black pair today, some chelsea player wore yellow/black yesterday (mikel?)

they look odd, never seen them before yesterday
  • Gattuso is a rabid dog!

    Gattuso is a warrior!
  • I'm thinking either 2-0 or 2-1 Liverpool. The psychological effect of the last time wears on, and we're a better squad to begin with.

My heart goes with the British side most times, but my head says Milan takes this one. It'll be a good match, though, I think - 3-2 Milan, something like that. I look forward to it.
  • Thanks for the liveblod earlier, Bob.

As for the final, Milan look better after the last week, but you just never know. What if one club's 'keeper gets sent off at the beginning like last year?

And no, I don't see any reason to 'get over it'.

If Milan play like they did today, then they're sure to win, especially if Maldini can play next time.
  • Ok, one more thing. Is there any doubt now that Gattuso is the biggest cheat in the history of football?
  • Go Liverpool. That's about all I can muster at this point. Well, that and: Can we change the URL of this site to http://www.theInzaghi.com?
  • Given how Milan looked tonight, you'd be crazy to put any money against them. And, in addition to avenging that hideous loss in Istanbul, they'll be playing to set Maldini out on top -- what better motivation could there be than honoring God?

I like Liverpool's chances, especially if they bring back the Dudek :-) It just seems like it is their destiny this year and with Italy winning the world cup it is time for another country to celebrate.
