Lucas Neill & Randy Johnson: Bird Hunters

If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it twice: the field of play is not a place for animals. Well Lucas Neill is doing his part to rid the pitch of these pests, as he did yesterday against Uzbekistan. At 1:10 of the above video, Lucas looks up, eyes his target, takes aim and fires a daisy cutter at the little feller who was trying to close down the passing lanes. The crowd goes wild and an unnamed humanitarian from Uzbekistan tries to get the wounded bird off the pitch with no success. Eventually the bird gets up and starts wandering around the pitch like Charlie Sheen circa 1993, so we assume he’ll end up healthy and with his own sitcom on CBS.

But Lucas could certainly learn a thing or two from Randy Johnson in terms of execution (after the jump):

  • I remember last year when the Finland v Belgium game was stopped for an eagle owl that wouldnt leave the pitch. Poor grackle (I think), no one stops the game for him.
  • I only hope that bird was a tit or a boobie or a nuthatch. Because I'm 12.
