Man City, Barcelona, and Defining the Soul of a Football Club

By: Daryl | August 22nd, 2009

I bring you highlights of Man City’s 1-0 win over Barcelona in the The Joan Gamper Trophy this. Not because it really means anything (eg it doesn’t mean that Man City are now European Champions) but rather as an excuse for directing your attention to something even more interesting.

In response to questions about what Man City’s nouveau riche status means for the soul of the club, Thad at Man City Offside has come up with a theory for defining exactly what constitutes the soul of a football club.

Thad breaks it down into four parts:

i. memory
ii. community
iii. competitive greatness, and
iv. what the club stands for.

What does all that have to do with Barcelona?

Read Thad’s post to find out.
