Man City Should Never Have Signed Robinho

By: Daryl | January 28th, 2009

Did Man City really know what they were getting when they signed Robinho? The Brazilian’s put in a few good performances, but his off-the-pitch behaviour is already outweighing the positives.

The mysterious trip home was worrying enough, but now Robinho’s been arrested and questioned over an alleged rape.

Wow.

£32.5 million buys you an awful lot of trouble these days.

Robinho’s out on bail, and could very well play for Man City against Newcastle tonight.

But it’s arguable that Man City should have steered clear of Robinho to begin with. He clearly wanted to sign for Chelsea and not Citeh this summer, and even seemed a little confused about exactly which team he’d joined at the time.

Not a great start.

Seems like City’s new owners just wanted a superstar – any superstar – to make sure they hit the headlines. Well, congratulations City, now you’ve got all the headlines you could ever want.

If 2 titles with Santos, 2 titles with Madrid, 2 titles with Brazil, countless hours of incredible 'fantasy football' highlight footage doesn't convince ROBINHO's doubters, maybe that second goal against ITALY will do the trick. CR7 & MESSI have the press, ROBINHO has the skills!!! He's not fully adjusted to the ENGLISH game yet and is 2nd leading scorer in the PREMIERSHIP!!! Yes, THE PREMIERSHIP, the one thats considered the best league in the world!!!! My guess is after MAN CITY quality for the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE this season thru the backdoor by winning the UEFA CUP, then just maybe he will get his due. If not then I guess it won't be until after BRAZIL win the WC in S.AFRICA 2010!!
  • Robinho sure has footballing quality and its there for everyone to see... But as a person he has this arrogance about him which were apparent by his histrionics for Real Madrid. Any club signing should have known that they could be the subject of such histrionics by themselves..

Laurie, you just about made me shoot whine out my nose.
    Kudos.
  • Daryl:

Don't give me that, you snotty-faced heap of parrot droppings! ... You vacuous, toffee-nosed, malodorous pervert!

Oh, I'm sorry. This is abuse. [For an argument] you want 12A, next door.

Stick to baseball and basketball as obviously you know nothing of football. By the way it's City and not Citeh. RAG

Mo is the new Rafa Benitez. Fact.
  • R De Souza
    Daryl,
    What a nob you are
  • 'Should have never signed him' is a bit excessive.

Downright ludicrous if you saw his touch and then through ball to SWP for the 1st goal.

    Exquisite.
  • Mo
Love how the morons flock to this articles like the moths do to the light, especially the yanks that posted last.

Robinho is 2nd highest goalscorer in the league, fact.
He was man of the match for the majority of the City fans, fact.
He had many exceptional appearances not just 2 or 3, you jealous prats.
City are going down with a billion in the bank? Had a look at the table recently you fool? We're 9th.,4 points away from UEFA cup qualification and we have a game in hand.
  • SDRD
regardless of robinho...city are going down with a billion in the bank!

Hm, I don't know what league you've been watching Ian, but I wouldn't say Robinho's put in "countless exceptional performances"
I'd say more like Three. Maybe two.
  • Ian
What a load of tripe, I think that the maxim 'innocent until proven guilty' still holds sway even in the world of tabloid speak?

Second highest scorer in the league and countless exceptional performances not good enough for you? Of course not, you and the other weasels won't be happy until he stops playing with a smile on his face and you can write about his abject failure.
  • Bluenose
For a start it was Jo who was the person who did the alleged 'assaulting' - Him Robinho and Elano have all been questioned about it as they were all there. It's obvious he went back to Brazil because of this - the police interview was arranged before the warm weather training he 'mysteriously' left. He obviously went home to discuss the police matter with his family. This is why he wasn't fined (depite what some crap media are saying). So..... one of the stars of the Premier League this season was a bad signing? Get a grip and quit these nonsense City bashing articles it's getting tired and ridiculous.

what a load of garbage. the guy has been brilliant since joining us. as for the yorkshire slapper, id imagine she's trying to sell her story like the majority of other complaints made against footballers. hasnt effected his game tonight!
  • jensuicat
Well I guess someone had to be the first to make a naf statement like that Get a life will you
  • The problem is when you spend that much money on a player you elevate them to a stage above the manager. Hughes cant drop him, cant stick him in the reserves, cant really do anything but tip-toe around him. Fergie could discipline him properly but Hughes is nowhere near that important within the club.

I totally agree Laurie, and I totally agree Drabik.
But who really knows except him and the girl?
  • Drabik
I agree with that too, it seems the innocent have about as much of a bad reputation as the ones that are charged. And the ones that are charged have so much money and fame that they are very rarely punished.

The club is always '100% behind the player'. If Robinho is guilty, and is charged, I wonder if Man City will sack him ... probably not because of the money they paid for him.
  • And on the flip side, I hate it when pampered superstars get away with things like sexual assault because they're famous, which probablly happens about as often.

Not passing any judgment on this case, obviously. Just a general observation.
  • Drabik
Personally, I dont believe that Robinho did anything. It's probably some girl crying wolf, as has happened on so many occasions to sports stars in the past. It will probably come of nothing, and I hope it doesnt affect his life/football too much.

I could be wrong, but I hate it when people have tattered reputations when they have done nothing wrong.
