Manchester United Land the New Ronaldinho, the New Cristiano Ronaldo

By: Bob | May 30th, 2007

nani.jpgI have a friend who went to Portugal a few years ago and all he came back with was a nasty venereal disease. Use protection, kids. His trip was slightly less productive than the one just completed by the Manchester United brain trust. The Red Devils have jumpstarted the summer transfer period by landing Anderson and Nani - a couple of highly sought after youngsters.

For those scoring at home, the 19-year-old Anderson is the one that some people call the New Ronaldinho. All it took was something in the neighborhood of 17 million pounds for his current club FC Porto to decide that now would be as good a time as any to sell him to the English Premier League Champions.

Nani is the one that shall be known as the New Cristiano Ronaldo. Whether that means he carries a man purse and waxes his eyebrows remains to be seen, but there is no denying that his services have been in great demand. Manchester United’s Champions League and Premiership pile of loot was more than enough to pry the 20-year-old winger away from Sporting.

So now we’ll get to see the New Ronaldo playing next to the Old Ronaldo, a tough label when you are only 22 years old. If these young players develop alongside the veterans like Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, and they all stay together, Manchester United will be hard to beat until the New Nani and the New Anderson come around however many years from now.

furgi furgi furgi, like the genius u are you have concentrated more on developement than current popularity, Manuntd is, was and always will be. with such brilliant players, (P.S what a cracker nani boy) we have no choice but to except victory.
  • Nani and Ronaldo will own the wings in the EPL by the second half of the 2007/2008 season. Ronaldo is already there. I'll give Nani half a season to get used to the thugs in the EPL. :-)

England looked sorry against Brazil today. You guys always have to put your hopes on one long shot. WC 2006, Rooney - Euro 2006, Beckham the savior. It takes a team to win!

Don't get me wrong. You have the best league in the world and all the pedigree you could ask for, but your super stars just can't put it all together. I love J. Cole, J. Terry and Lampard, and others but damn it if they don't look sorry when they play for England.

In the picture you see Nani taking a dramamtic dive to win a penalty against Boavista. Get used to the yellows for "simulation" Utd fans, especially when these two and Pretty Cris get on the pitch together.
  • Chelsea can do whatever they please, we've locked up the future of football. Young talent has been getting 'swooped up' by big clubs for decades, the only difference is that nowadays the talent is getting spotted at earlier stages in their careers because of greater scouting efforts. As for the new Fred...I don't know about that I would've said more along the lines of the new Alex or Kaka if you're talking Portuguese triumverate. And they don't get swooped up, they play where they want to play. Just look at Cashley Cole or John Obi Mikel.
  • Scooping up all of the talent? We still have a smaller squad than Chelsea! And Real Madrid. Come on you Reds!! :)

next thing you know they'll go try to swoop up the new fred to complete the portuguese speaking triumverate

Is this the point in time when we are all supposed to complain about big clubs swooping up all the talent?
  • Why do I have Blur's 'Song 2' in my head right now? Woo Hoo! Prediction - by this time next week, not to be outdone by United, Chelsea will have paid 40 million for Tevez.
