Marco Materazzi is Open for Business

By: Daryl | July 14th, 2007

marcomatterazi23.JPGDavid Beckham’s not the only number 23 doing a bit of brand awareness work this weekend. Marco Materazzi (whose place in history is assured thanks to his role in the infamous Zidane headbutting incident, which somehow he got a lot of the blame for despite being the one getting butted) may not be as pretty or as popular as Becks. “People who knows me say I am a good guy, others say I am not” says his website. But he does have an equal number of bizarre tattoos. And a World Cup winner’s medal.

And now, as spotted on our Italy blog, Marco Materazzi has a store, which is now open for business.

The t-shirts look pretty smart, and these are nice for Inter fans celebrating last season’s Scudetto triumph to wear while drinking this and eating this. It’s all adorned with MM23’s branded logo, which is a bizarre cross between a coat of arms and graffiti.

The most interesting thing about this is Marco Materazzi being a defender. The guys who get all the branded stuff tend to be your flashy attacking Ronaldinhos and the like, so I’m all in favour of big aggressive central defenders having their own branded chocolate.
