Mark van Bommel Is “Der grösste Stinkstiefel”
By: chris | March 20th, 2008
(As you can probably tell by the word “stink” in the title, Mark won’t be sending out any thank you cards for this distinction.)
The German media is fantastic for all sorts of player and fan polls to give us information we need….but don’t really need. Like today’s version of Bild, which polled a sampling of fans to let us know who the fans hate the most in the Bundesliga. The winner being named “Der grösste Stinkstiefel” which apparently tranlates to “The biggest stinking boot”. This year’s victor is none other than Mark Peter Gertuda Andreas van Bommel of Bayern Munich with a whopping 25.28% of the vote.
On a personal note, I’ve hated Mark van Bommel since the PSV days. Maybe it’s because he’s a whiny jackass who has a penchant for certain gestures, but I could never figure out the exact origin of my distaste. I just sort of disliked him greatly from the beginning. Now at least I have some justification, because other people apparently feel he’s a whiny jackarse as well.
The top five plays out like this:
1. Mark van Bommel (Bayern) 25.28%
2. Maik Franz (Karslruhrer) 13.66%
3. Olli Kahn (Soon to be nobody) 13.36%
4. David Jarolim (HSV) 11.86%
5. Diego (Werder Bremen) 10.97%
The question is how Franz is taking this? As he’s dubbed himself the most hated player in the Bundesliga, and he’s not even close. There goes his claim to fame.
And the rest of the top 10 can be seen here.
