this has to be ferguson’s stupidest move since signing that one striker who was on the bench at leeds united for a million pounds after losing out on le tissier, david hirst, and brian dean. and we all know how that eric cantona fellow turned out.

Thinking about it, this could actually be quite good. Man U lack a straightforward, tap-it-in kind of striker (Berbatov and Rooney are ‘creative’ strikers who like to wander around), and Owen, when he’s fit, could fit this bill perfectly.

i think owen is well past his best. united should play rooney as a centre forward instead off on the left an he will deffinetly score at least 20 to 25 goals next season on his own an if they play nani more than last season an give him the chance he deserves then united will b champions 4 the forth year in a row. COME ON UNITED

Owen for Hull or Stoke versus Owen for Manchester United are 2 very different prospects.

Maybe I was suckered in by the brochure but Owen does play best as a out and out striker, poaching goals, much like Fillipo Inzaghi does for Milan. At Newcastle, he was forced to come deep to get the ball, something that Rooney/Berbatov will do when alongside Owen. I feel that he is the ideal player (at the moment) for Manchester United with the right balance of talent and willingness to deal with rotation.

And the fact that he’s on a free makes the deal impossible to resist and I’m banking on him getting 20 goals next season for United.
