Mirko Vucinic Celebrates In His Underpants

By: Daryl | December 14th, 2008

Two interesting things about Mirko Vucinic’s joyous celebration after his 90th minute winner for Roma today. First, he takes off his Roma shirt to reveal… another Roma shirt underneath. Anyone know why? Please share.

But wearing two shirts is the height of normalness compared to what the striker did next, which was to whip off his shorts and run around celebrating the gamewinning goal in his tighty whities.

Mirko’s a brave man. You wouldn’t catch me running around outdoors in my underwear in December, shrinkage and what not. But not as brave as Yoann Gourcuff, who recently celebrated by removing both shirt and shorts to celebrate a goal for Bordeaux.

Well the shirt he had underneath was just a training jersey, it wasn’t the actual Roma kit.

But when I saw this I was thinking, he took off two pieces of his kit, so shouldn’t he technically have gotten two yellow cards? I wonder what the rule is, I’m pretty sure they’ll explain in detail on Italian TV tonight.

I notice a very positive trend in goal celebrations. Keep it up, boys!
    And, congratulations to Roma!

A lot of the Roma players have been wearing shirts underneath their jerseys. Mirko usually wears a dry fit style shirt. Also you will see players like De Rossi wear short sleeves over long sleeves. Originally I thought they didn’t like the long sleeve versions of the kit, but it seems as though they are all just trying to stay warm.

Woah woah woah Johanna. That comment might be going a bit far.

Sure they both celebrated in their tighty whities, but the difference is

    One is a mad genius
    The other is a genius

    ….

Can I just say how much entertainment value I get from comments like this?

What do you think? Do they just stumble here (which is, I believe, a football blog) on accident, then accidentally watch the video and accidentally read the post, and then accidentally leave a comment?

    Oops!

The only explanation I can think of for him tearing off his shorts and sprinting to the fence is that he thought he saw Laurie and/or Daryl up in the stands.

I know it’s not very sporting of me, but the first time one of these guys falls on his face while taking off his shorts and has to be subbed out, I’m going to laugh.
