Miroslav Klose is not so Smart

By: Bob | April 27th, 2007

miroslav-klose-2.jpgIt is a big week for your club. You have a UEFA Cup semifinals match. Your team is also in a dogfight to win a league title. What better way to prepare for the action than to meet with one of your club’s chief rivals who are trying to lure you away to come play for them?

When it comes to timing, Werder Bremen’s Miroslav Klose doesn’t have much of a clue. When it comes to explaining why he would choose to meet with Bayern Munich officials while his club is chasing two trophies, he isn’t much of a liar either.

“The meeting with Bayern was only an informational conversation and not a contract negotiation,” last year’s World Cup top scorer told the German sports news agency SID. “It only lasted 20 minutes but the timing was obviously unfortunate.

“I want to apologise to Werder and all the fans. I should have told the coach and manager about it.”

You could almost believe Klose if he were looking for information about an obscure team playing in the Austrian fourth division, but what kind of information could he possibly be looking for about Bayern Munich? Perhaps he is interested in learning about where they play. Does he want to know about Owen Hargreaves’ strange accent? Is he wondering why Lukas Podolski smells so good? Does he have concerns about Oliver Kahn’s bladder?

Or did that “informational conversation” begin and end with something along the lines of: “So, how much are you going to pay me?”

A pretty boneheaded move from the World Cup’s Golden Boot holder. He’s suppose to be chatting with Barcelona and Juventus, not Bayern. Although a Podolski/Klose partnership at Bayern would be pretty entertaining, since they work well together at the national level.
