MLS Expansion Draft: San Jose’s Picks
By: Laurie | November 21st, 2007Be sure to check out the thoughts of our San Jose Offside blogger, Melissa, on the Expansion Draft.
Here we have the list of the little Expansion Draft seedlings who will sprout into a whole new team called the San Jose Earthquakes come April.
1. Ryan Cochrane (Houston Dynamo)
2. Clarence Goodson (FC Dallas)
3. Ned Grabavoy (Columbus Crew)
4. James Riley (New England Revolution)
5. Joseph Vide (New York Red Bulls)
6. Ivan Guerrero (Chicago Fire)
7. Brian Carroll (D.C. United)
8. Jason Hernandez (Chivas USA)
9. Gavin Glinton (LA Galaxy)
10. Chris Pozniak (Toronto FC)
Some interesting choices. I expected Glinton from LA to go — it was stupid of them to leave him unprotected. Goodson and Grabavoy as well. Some of the others are a bit of a surprise. (I would have taken either Ramon Nunez or one of the forwards from Chivas. But then again, I’m not Frank Yallop. and I’m sure he has a plan. I mean a plan aside from “screwing over the LA Galaxy as badly as I possibly can in the coming years.”)
The Colorado Rapids, Kansas City Wizards and Real Salt Lake had no players taken.
What do you think about the choices?

Personally, I’m happy they passed on Kansas City because I’m still mad about them knocking Chivas out of the playoffs so I don’t know if I can stomach a KC player at SJ just yet.
Out of all the players on the list and after all the inevitable trades and such, I think at least Cochrane, Glinton, Guerrero, Pozniak, and Vide will be suiting up in those sexy new blue/black uniforms come Aril.

I’m sad to see Ivan Guerrero leave the Fire, as he’s a talented and committed player. He’d serve San Jose well.
On the other hand, he’s pretty old and earns a lot for MLS, at almost $200k, so we free up some cap space at least.

Frank was absolutely gushing over Guerrero at that draft party thang today. I’d say he was the player The Frank talked the most about.
