MLS is Coming to a DVD Player Near You
By: Laurie | November 26th, 2007
I spent the most recent MLS season watching the LA Galaxy limp to a 9-14-7 record. No matter how much I love the guys on the team, the thought of re-watching most of these games ranks right up there with babysitting a two-year-old who has the stomach flu.
On the other hand, I consider the France-Brazil game from last summer’s World Cup to be soccer porn eternally engrossing and worthy of multiple viewings. So I understand, in theory, the concept of purchasing soccer DVDs. And I hope to someday be able to apply that concept to MLS.
When I reach that point, A & E home video should have me covered.
A&E Home Video and the Major League Soccer have signed a multi-year, multi-title agreement wherein A&E will distribute MLS titles to the retail marketplace.
The first release will be a commemorative DVD of the 2007 MLS Cup between the Houston Dynamos and the New England Revolution, which the Dynamos won in Washington D.C. on Nov. 18.
This game was actually surprisingly entertaining for a neutral, so they might have a chance of turning a profit. I’d also like to see MLS develop another revenue stream so the younger players won’t need to rely on Goodwill, Top Ramen, and the Bank of Mom and Dad. A&E, I wish you luck.
They’re selling this DVD for $19.95 and rushing it out just in time for that holiday season. Unless your holiday(s) are anything other than Christmas, in which case you’re probably out of luck. It comes out Dec. 18. Well, okay, Kwanzaa would probably work. Or, y’know, maybe Solstice with a rush delivery.
