MLS is going to make sure the LA Galaxy are in the Playoffs

…and man didn’t actually walk on the moon, Kennedy was killed by the FBI and there really is such a thing as low fat cottage cheese. Conspiracy theorists, rejoice! The above screen shot comes from the official MLS website today. Maybe the Galaxy will be awarded three points for their draw against New York. Furthering the claims that the league is doing its part to make sure David Beckham and crew reach the playoffs (or at least make the final weekend pretty damn exciting), Ives points out that there might be more to the referee switch in Thursday night’s game. Now all we need is a story about Blanco coming down with food poisoning this weekend, Eddie Johnson to be transfered to England today and Colorado to go bankrupt tonight and we are all set. What do you think MLS fans? Is this fix in or is the conspiracy theory little more than that?

They have since changed it to tie.
LA and Beckham in the playoffs is more important to the league and sport. If it’s tied after 90 minutes, stoppage time should just be Beckham FK’s from 20 yards out removing 1 defender from the wall after every miss until he scores. Then we watch Lalas headbutt Wynalda for saying not to start him.

having a superstar like Beckham (and his team) get all the calls would actually be pretty consistent with other U.S. pro sports leagues, the NBA in particular. There were the infamous “Jordan rules” during Michael Jordan’s career, to name just one notorious example. Whether this comes down from the league or is just a result of referees’ starf*cking is a different question altogether. I don’t think anybody in any position of power at MLS would be stupid or insane enough to try and make it an official policy. At most they’d just have a brief nudge nudge, wink wink conversation with individual refs, or whatever.

Screw the playoffs, I’d pay good money to watch a Lalas vs Wynalda cat fight complete with spitting, scratching, and hair and/or beard pulling. Who would Brian Hall favor for *THAT* match?

The irony is that if Chicago, Colorado, and KC lose they are really helping the long term viability of profitibility for the entire league and themsleves in the long-term!!!

Unfortunately it is out of the Galaxy’s hands now… I’m actually a Colorado fan, but am torn due tot he impact that Beckham could have by the Galaxy making the playoffs…

last night game sucked! plain and simple! more appropriate would be to say that galaxy sucked! they were not composed! they didnt pass the ball right! they didnt create many chances! and probably the most important thing, beckhem felt more confused and irritated as he saw his team unable to penetrate RB’s defence! I think beckhem came to the wrong place to play the last years of his professional life!

After the blown PK call for RBNY last night… it would appear the fix was in. More important than getting LA and Beckham in the playoffs is maintaining fairplay in a league that has great parity.
