I adore world football, and try to stay interested in my home town Crew, but come on - MLS is crap. I love pro cycling, world football, and grand prix racing, but it's hopeless to try selling those to American sports fans. Americans like American stuff, and they're just not open to anything else. Cycling was a perfect example. Even at the height of Lance-mania, none of those US citizens with yellow bracelets could name any other race but the Tour de France, nor could they name any previous winner of the Tour. That's fine, let's leave it that way. I don't care if American fans like any of my favorite sports as long as I can follow them on TV, and occasionally travel to contries where they thrive. It's just embarrassing to watch American executive try to capitalize on World Sports with ridiculous stunts like MLS playoffs, shoot outs, etc. It just reminds everybody that the average American doesn't care what goes on outside of their borders.

There are five players who start for Fiorentina in Serie A, all making less than Landon Donovan, who are headed for Champions League in Europe. There are five players who play with Landon Donovan on the LA Galaxy who make less then they would working at Champs Sports in Glendale. That ain't right.

We should all be allowed to watch the watchers and see what really goes on. The decision-making process stinks to high heaven and if the Beckham/Ruiz/Donovan three-way becomes unstoppable this season, you'll hear the screaming grow even louder.

Gazidis is just doing what all functionaries do, blame the preceding group and talk about how things are getting better. What the hell does that mean? Transparency isn't something you work toward. It's something you do. And if you don't do it, there's a reason. Debating the grandfathered thing is NOT a sign of greater transparency. Letting the grandfathering deadlines expire and then having an open discussion on whether to renew them would be. The fact is that all three of the grandfathering decisions should have expired right now, right?

This debate is healthy, yes, but it should have been done before the deadlines were extended. That would have been transparent. The situation is exactly as you described it Laurie, a "system" designed to benefit one team. Though, in typical MLS fashion, how it is actually benefitting LAG is something of a mixed bag, now isn't it?

Bob, that's the best idea I've heard all day. Hell, I'll volunteer to liveblog their back room meetings. And we all know how much I hate to liveblog.

I try really hard to be supportive of this league and living in LA I try to support the Galaxy but these types of things are really disconcerting. It makes it hard for me to think that the MLS really cares about fans like me and what I think of my team.

I am a firm believer that the MLS does not want me as a fan. It doesn't care about those people who are steeped in the history and follow the football leagues from around the world.

Despite that, it is kinda cool to be able to drive 20 minutes to the Home Depot Center and be able to watch a former world class player like David Beckham and arguably the best US player, Landon Donovan take the field together.

Come on Jamesey, as if you don't know why the MLS made the schedule that way.

I love how MLS allowed the Galaxy to play like 12 away matches in 4 weeks last year once Beckham arrived. I love how an overweight, oft-injured, and moody Ruiz is considered an unfair pickup by the Galaxy. Whoever thinks the Galaxy are a good example of the some leagu-wide conspiracy is wrong

I love soccer, and live in North America, and therefore try my best to like the MLS and promote it. But seriously. The folks at MLS are as dumb as doorknobs. It's embarassing.
