MLS Supplemental Draft
By: Laurie | January 28th, 2008
I tend not to get terribly excited about the Supplemental Draft. As I’ve said elsewhere, supplemental draftees are like chickens. You don’t want to give them names, because then you get attached. And when that happens, seeing their little heads rolling in the dirt breaks your heart.
If you’re one of these supplemental draftees, though, don’t let this discourage you. Every individual player has a chance of making the team. It just that collectively the odds are not good.
(Pictured is University of Washington’s Kevin Forrest, picked by the Colorado Rapids. One I think will make it. In my opinion, the only reason he didn’t make the SuperDraft is that he’s coming back from injury.)
The Supplemental Draft was held last Thursday. The link below will take you to full results, both round-by-round and by team. One interesting thing to note is that Toronto FC passed in its last three rounds. Interesting choice. Of all the teams that could stand to find a diamond in the rough, Toronto tops the list.
And on that happy note, let’s meet the Supplemental Draft class of 2008:

Another Creighton alumn, Danny Minutillo, got invited to Quakes’ training camp. I don’t know if he was initially part of the draft and just didn’t get picked or what (too many names to keep track!).

“…Toronto FC passed in its last three rounds. Interesting choice.”
I literally burst out laughing when I read that! What is going on in the heads of our neighbors to the north? Waiting til the 3rd round of the SuperDraft to grab a forward… not taking a gamble with house money in the SuppleDraft (can somebody besides me start using this name?)…
Take a look at this article: http://web.mlsnet.com/news/team_news.jsp?ymd=20071126&content_id=130863&vkey=news_t280&fext=.jsp&team=t280
“WHAT AREA OF THE TEAM NEEDS THE MOST IMPROVEMENT?
When a team scores an MLS-record low 25 goals and goes a league-record 824 consecutive minutes without a tally, stepping up the attack is the top offseason priority. Johnston said he wants to sign at least two more forwards to join Jeff Cunningham and Danny Dichio on the strike force. The search has already begun, as Serbian international Savo Milosevic (a veteran of the English, Italian and Spanish top leagues) trained with the club in late October.”HELLO, JOHNSTON, YOU COULD TRY THE DRAFT TOO. The Canadian Dollar clearly isn’t the only thing Loonie in Toronto.
