The Sounders average about 3,000 fans. The Timbers average about 5,000 fans. While I’d love to see them both in MLS I think forecasting success based on USL attendance numbers is difficult. After all, the Toronto Lynx played in the USL First Division for a number of years and could barely draw 2,000 per game. If expansion is based on current numbers, Montreal and Rochester would both be in. They both average around 9,000 per game.

I completely agree with Pat – the Timbers and Sounders have better home support than a few MLS sides – promotion is definitely the answer.

Abby, no the Wizards should go to St. Louis. Just “promote” (buy up) the Sounders and Timbers into the MLS and keep the rivalry alive.
